The Lanzarote Arts and Crafts Fair

The 28th edition of the Lanzarote Arts and Crafts Fair was held on the 14th to 18th of September in the municipality of Tinajo during the festival of the patron saint “Nuestra Señora de los Dolores”.

This event has become the most important arts and crafts fair on the island and also a cultural reference where typical Canarian products are promoted. During the 5 days of the fair a total of 68 artisans from the whole of the Canarian archipelago joined forces showing off their outstanding handmade crafts: needlewomen, potters, embroiderers, cutlers, carpenters and basket makers among others.

The local folklore, always very present in this event, was one of the major attractions and once again the “Nanino Díaz Cutillas” Folklore Festival celebrated its 28th edition with folkloric music groups from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and El Hierro. In this edition there was special homage paid to the women of the islet of La Graciosa.

Numerous workshops and free activities were organized such as ceramic, clay modeling, candle and crochet workshops as well as a typical handmade garment fashion show and a play center for children.

The most renowned Canarian gastronomic products were on hand with cheese, wine, mojo sauce and gofio tasting offered to all the visitors.

Thanks to the tours organized by the main agencies of Lanzarote, many foreign tourists were able to sample a bit of  Canarian popular culture. On the 16th and 17th of September there were private tours to Mancha Blanca, where visitors learned about the legend of the patron saint and her church, visited the fair and sampled some of the tastiest tapas made from the the best Canarian produce, enlivened by Canarian folk music.
